In a country where people do not generally have ovens in their homes, it is not obvious where Orthodox parishes are going to get bread for the Divine Liturgy. In the Russian tradition, five loaves are used for the Liturgy – plus additional loaves sent into the altar by the faithful together with their prayer requests. That’s a lot of bread!
Over the past few years, benefactors have helped Orthodox faithful in the Philippines to purchase ovens, and they’ve been learning to bake bread for the Liturgy. From the looks of photos from Father Nicholas Salgado, they have learned well!
