It has been House Blessing season here in the Philippines! As we walked each neighborhood, neighbors and strangers have asked us to come bless their homes too. These weeks have been an opportunity to provide comfort, counsel – and catechism about the Church – to local families we have never met before.
Despite rain and mud, parish members accompanied Fr Silouan to bless houses all over Santa Maria. (Yes, that first photo shows a hillside with about 35 degree incline!) Motorcycles, livestock, fields, shops, and the new local radio station all were blessed. In Greece priests bless with a bunch of fragrant, healing basil. There’s no basil here, but the leaves of the Malunggay tree are used medicinally and to add fragrance to cooking, so that’s what we’ve been using.
